Lunar New Year at Mail Champlain: a blend of tradition and innovation
The Brossard community celebrated the Year of the Fire Horse in style at Mail Champlain. In addition to generating high traffic and strengthening emotional attachment to the centre, these iconic celebrations reinforce the centre's positioning as a culturally engaged and vibrant venue.
‘Our immersive, authentic and local approach sets us apart from other events surrounding Lunar New Year celebrations,’ explains Audrey Larochelle, the centre's marketing coordinator. ‘This year, we wanted to enhance the festivities while maintaining the traditions we have upheld for several years.’
New features were therefore incorporated into the festivities to keep the community surprised.
An Enhanced Programme of Activities In addition to the traditional lion dance by Montreal Chan Lion Dance Club and the dance performance by CY Ballet, attendees of all ages participated in hands-on workshops—such as Chinese origami and calligraphy —which allowed them to connect with the culture and create memorable moments.
Handcrafted décor
Highlighting the event was the introduction of new, handcrafted décor, created in collaboration with a canadian agency. Silk ribbon sculptures representing movement, strength, and renewal, along with oversized floral arrangements symbolising prosperity, drew considerable attention from attendees.
The shades of red and gold reflected in each element created a festive atmosphere and added a lot of flair to the centre's common areas. At the heart of all these decorations was a fiery horse effigy, in front of which many photos were taken.
Happy Lunar New Year to all!
